Update on COVID-19 for College Horizons, Scholars and Graduate Horizons

Update on COVID-19 for College Horizons, Scholars and Graduate Horizons

March 13, 2020

Dear College Horizons Family,

Being a good relative is a core value of College Horizons that we integrate into our decision making and when working directly with our students, faculty, families and communities.

In light of the evolving COVID-19 pandemic and in support of preventative and our collective wellbeing, the in-person 2020 College Horizons, Scholars Program and Graduate Horizons summer programs will not take place.

Please be aware that the application process for all three programs will continue. A separate communication has been sent to College Horizons applicants who will receive admission decisions by the end of March. The Scholars application (open to College Horizons alumni who are current high school seniors) will also be launched and students are encouraged to apply. Lastly, the Graduate Horizons application will also remain open and applicants are encouraged to apply.

I am working with my Board of Directors, CH staff, Hosting Institutions, and College/University Partners to develop a plan to re-imagine our programming either remotely or to roll-over some programming into 2021. I ask for your patience while the CH team develops our plan in collaboration with our partner colleges.

We are mindful that not all of our students and families will have the same access to technology for remote learning. Where possible we will develop and deliver content and advising in a multi-media format (including mailing hard copies of curriculum or calling on the phone for one-on-one advising) that meet a student’s technological capabilities and learning needs.

This virus is compounding issues of equity and access to higher education and more than ever does our shared work in college access, talking story, understanding communities and interdependence matter. This is an unprecedented time forcing all of us to rethink and respond anew. I welcome this time to reimagine our collective work, to reimagine our relationships and to reimagine what being a good relative means.

We appreciate your interest, involvement and support during this time.

Sincerely,

Carmen Lopez, Executive Director
